The Ottawa Choral Society presents: The Notebooks of Leonardo da Vinci
with Vivaldi's Gloria

The Ottawa Choral Society presents: The Notebooks of Leonardo da Vinci
with Vivaldi's Gloria

Carleton Dominion-Chalmers Centre
355 Cooper St, Ottawa, ON K2P 0G6

The Notebooks of Leonardo da Vinci will offer a multi-media experience using the latest in video syncing technology, combining choir, full orchestra and video projections. Composer Jocelyn Hagen was inspired by an exhibit of da Vinci’s work in 2016 and incorporates da Vinci’s stunningly beautiful handwriting and sketches into an entrancingly artistic tour de force.

Vocal soloists will be Ania Hejnar, soprano, Stéphanie Brassard, soprano, and Sydney Frodsham, contralto. Also to be featured in this concert, Antonio Vivaldi’s Gloria, the Baroque-era Italian composer’s most famous choral work, is imaginatively inspired in its range of vocal and instrumental colour.

St. Matthew’s Anglican Church 217 First Ave
Ottawa, Ontario K1S 2G5

Events: Workshops on April 25-26 & Free Concert on April 27 at 4:00 pm.

Join us for the inaugural TrebleFest Ottawa: Upper Voices Choir Festival, hosted by Hypatia’s Voice in April 2025! This exciting event will celebrate the rich sound of treble choirs, featuring adult and high school-age sopranos and altos. We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Hilary Apfelstadt, Professor Emerita from the University of Toronto and a distinguished expert in treble choirs, will be our resident clinician and guest Artistic Director.

This inclusive event features guest choirs—Aella Choir, Cantiamo Choirs of Ottawa, and OCC Chamber Choir—and the host choir Hypatia’s Voice, alongside individual sopranos and altos from across the region. All singers in the soprano or alto range, regardless of gender identity, are invited to join in workshops, festival choir rehearsals, and a culminating concert. Dr. Apfelstadt will also lead a conducting workshop designed to nurture the skills of emerging conductors.

The final event of the festival is a free concert at St. Matthew’s on Sunday afternoon at 4:00 pm. The program will offer an inspiring showcase of repertoire for upper voices performed by the festival choir as well as each of the guest choirs.
